Total hours
- 40 hours (after the first renewal)
- 40 hours (first renewal)First renewal: 40 hours × months licensed ÷ months in the cycle, to the nearest hour.Decreased proportionately according to the date of licensure within the two-year cycle (R156-60 § 304).
Cycles begin October 1 of even-numbered years.
Hours that must be included
- Ethics of clinical practice, law or technology (3 hours MFT-specific): 6 hours
- Suicide prevention: 2 hours
- Marriage and family therapy practice: 15 hours
Limits
- Self-study / non-interactive hours (self-study): at most 15 hoursAsynchronous distance learning capped at 15 hours.
- Lecturing or instructing (up to twice per course): at most 14 hours
- Direct supervision (supervising others, supervision or consultation received): at most 14 hours
- Certifiable clinical readings (independent study or reading): at most 15 hours
- Volunteer service (board or committee service, volunteer or pro bono service): at most 6 hours
- Up to 10 hours carry over to the next cycleUp to 10 excess hours carry over to the next two-year cycle.
